India is one of the largest producers of engineers worldwide. one of the most prestigious institutions being obviously the IITs followed by NITs IISc Jadavpur etc, So the reality of IIT, it is no doubt one of the best we got.
But most of the students run after IIT for either of the below 3 things
1. social status - getting an IIT tag immediately increase your status cause of course brand value.
2. highest placement packages - the reality is most of the engineers see the outcome only a handful of students get that package.
3. better opportunities - it is the best place for really passionate engineers. it has got enormous facilities
There are two basic reasons for taking science -
1. you love maths physics chemistry, you love science
2. your parents forced you to take science
I belong to the 1st category, I love physics, maths, and computer. My mother wanted me to become a doctor but never forced me, but of course, she spoke about IITs and NITs. It's not like I hate biology or something, it's just I hate the idea of mugging up all those scientific names and take exams. Bio was always been an interesting subject for me. But anyway engineering life chose me not vice versa.
I sound like that a frustrating engineering student?
Well not really, I like my department, my department is cool, but I wanted to study computer engineering. So yea that's where comes reservation and trust me being brahmin sucks.
Here's the most annoying thing. SC candidate who doesn't use their quota cause they don't need it. But what they don't realize is that they are taking up a general candidate's seat, the worst part is the general guy lost his chance of getting admitted. this is how people who deserve lost to get what they actually desire.
According to a survey, it is found that 80% of engineers are unemployed. Why? cause they don't have the required skill.
NO doubt IITs are the best and if you want to LEARN something then it's the best you can get in India.
